REMEMBERING MAGOCSI

Theresa "Tink" Gomez e-mailed some photos of Alex Magosci today. She said I could post them here, so here's a few:

Alex with Tink

Alex with The Rev. Horton Heat

Alex with Carlos Ortiz and a Cowgirl waiter

And I found a couple of mine that are a little better than the ones I posted last night. Both are from the infamous trip to South by Southwest in 1995 :

An Austin horseback cop tells Alex and Sandy he won't have any Junk on his streets.

Junk finally plays SXSW. Their opening act was Irma Thomas.

  1. Sad, tragic news. Last time I saw Alex he did not seem to be in a very good state. This sucks.

Alex was a very special person. He changed my life when I met him 15 years ago and we started our band, Alex was full of great energy. It was a magical time - there was no question that anything was possible. Alex was so talented as a drummer, writer, fixer of our tour van. . . . he could do anything. He was so damned smart and funny . . . and he was also kind and loved people. I know he needed to love himself more, though. This is so hard to write - It sucks that Alex died alone - but wherever he is now I know he feels loved - I love you, Alex.

Here is a song that Alex and I wrote in 1992. We were sitting on a porch on a warm night. I played the chords on my guitar, and Alex wrote these words:

I imagined that a stranger was trying to kill me
I thought that the guy next door dealt me drugs
I wondered when fear would ever stop chasing me
when all the while I was chasing myself

I Imagined that I was drowning in an ocean of love
and the water I was drinking turned to blood
I imagined the secrets we shared turned to poison
I thought all the words that you said became lies
I wondered when fear would ever stop chasing me
when all the while I was chasing myself

I imagined our lives in a jar by the window
I thought that someday we could open it up
I wondered if then we could love one another
just for a while without living in fear
